Project Title
TIMA’s work during this period explores the nature of the self - his portraits are wholly focused on the individual, the personage, and the complexities of human identity.
An almost manic interest in the human condition and the conflict of public and private identities led him to photograph 700 portraits per week — more than 60,000 portraits were captured by the artist during this twelve-year period.
TIMA is renown for his portraits of celebrities such as Natalia Vodianova, Naomi Campbell, Bono, Kanye West and Antonio Banderas, his collaborations with brands such as LV, Armani and BMW as well as his features in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Dazed and Confused magazines.
His work mediates between this highly emotional, high-end photography and an avid interest in social, documentary portraiture, capturing the life of orphanages for children with special needs and continuing his exploration of the indigenous peoples living in the Russian North.
